Biography
Olivier Mbabazi (1996 - ) is a multidisciplinary artist and scholar based in Vancouver, Canada. He studied sculpture and music at the School of Art and Music of Nyundo, trained in stone sculpture at Kunst Gymnasium in Germany, completed a marketing management course at the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business and graduated from Sewanee The University of the South in United States with a bachelors of arts in Fine Art and French & French Studies. He is pursuing a masters in fine art visual arts at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. Olivier is a Thomas J. Watson Fellow, a Beckeen Scholar, a 213-A Leader, and a former member of Sewanee Interfaith Advisory Board and his works have been exhibited in Germany, the United States, and in Rwanda.
Artist Statement
Olivier Mbabazi's work examines intersections and collisions between memory, culture and identity. It also seeks to celebrate identity multiplicity and to propose a positive outlook on the future.
